This complete version (1989-2019) conserves the original dataset structure by including interim years and the first five post-conflict years.

This smaller dataset (SVAC_3.0_conflictyears) includes only active conflict-years (1989-2019). Because most analysts are primarily interested in sexual violence during active conflict years, we created this smaller dataset to facilitate the use of the data.

The SVAC 2.0 Codebook and User Guide can be downloaded using the link to the left. The Codebook and User Guide contains coding information about all the variables in the SVAC 2.0 dataset, details about the sources used to code the data, instructions on how to use (and not use) the data, and an extensive section of FAQ.

If you downloaded the SVAC 2.0 datasets between October 23 and November 30, 2019, please be advised these included a coding error pertaining to the classification of conflict, interim, and post-conflict years. Please instead use the current version, SVAC 2.1 (December 2019).

The SVAC Dataset (November 2016 – Version 1.1) can be downloaded using the link to the left. Please note that if you plan to merge the SVAC Dataset with UCDP data of active conflict-years, you will first need to delete the post-conflict years and interim years from the SVAC Dataset. This spreadsheet provides a record of the changes made to the dataset in the SVAC 1.1 release, as well as the reason for the changes. These changes are relatively minor, and we encourage scholars using the data to use the latest version. However, we provide this list of changes as a reference point.
